Capt. Mark East’s Advice to the Careworn, Confused, Lovelorn and Other Outdoor People

Dear Mister East,
My granddaughter who is 18 yrs old and just graduated from high school has decided she wants to walk around the world. Says she needs to find herself and wants me to help pay for it. I don’t have a lot of money so I told her I’d pay her way to China and she was on her own. What do you think?

Dear Teenager Perplexed,
With all the turmoil in the world today I suppose a “walk around” would be better than a second rate Terror movie. Sometimes, if a young person has something like this walk in mind I think it’s better to encourage them. If they do it and succeed there’s a good chance it will put some steel in their personality.

Dear Captain East,
Our son is a driver for a boat hauling company and delivers boats for a company all over the states. He’s been married for a few years, has a two year old daughter and is seldom home for more than a few days at a time. He’s talking about buying his own rig and taking his wife and child with him on some of the runs. He’s crazy.
Signed, Concerned Grandmom

Dear Concerned Grandmom,
I can’t imagine changing diapers in a sleeper cab so I would say he and probably your daughter in law are dreaming. They’d probably soon be staying in the boat he’s hauling. Tell him to get an escape clause in his purchase contract for the rig, or a good lawyer for divorce.
