The Carol Cole was an Area 3 lobster and crab boat, whose average trip length was 10 days. HALLOWELL – How much seaweed can be harvested in a way that sustainably supports the resource and the ecosystem that depends on it, while also continuing to provide a living for a growing industry?

Those are the basic questions that underlie the current development of a state fishery management plan. Rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) is the predominant form of seaweed harvested in Maine.

The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) formed a plan development team (PDT) whose members include processors, scientists and environmentalists. There are currently no harvesters on the PDT

Blue Fin Tuna: Quality Up, Numbers Down, Prices Flat

At the end of August reports were saying the quality of blue fin tuna had improved over what was seen a month earlier . The the end of July there were a lot of fish, but they were low quality, too low for the Japanese markets at least.
