Northeast Ocean Plan Meeting September 21, 2017

Press Release — On September 21, 2017, the Ocean Health Index (OHI) team and the Northeast RPB are co-hosting a workshop to inform the development of an OHI for the northeast. The workshop will be held at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. The Northeast Ocean Planning website has been updated with a draft agenda and other meeting details. While the meeting is open to all and registration is not required, for meeting planning purposes, please consider registering by Wednesday, September 6, if you plan to attend. You can register for this meeting here.

We continue to advance other aspects of plan implementation per the outcomes of our meetings in May. We’re developing new case studies about the use of the Northeast Ocean Data Portal (Portal) and we’re posting ongoing data and functionality updates to the Portal. We’re developing and reviewing draft data products related to commercial fishing, marine transportation, recreation, marine life, and the components of ecological importance with experts and stakeholders through the fall. We also continue to advance the development of an approach for evaluating plan performance and plan implementation.

We look forward to a workshop on November 15, 2017, to review the latest draft data products with you and to an in-person RPB meeting on November 16, 2017, to review progress implementing the Plan in 2017 and to look forward to 2018. We will send information about the location of these two November events in the coming weeks. Please email the co-leads and Nick Napoli (nnapoli@northeastoceancouncil.org) if you’d like to propose specific topics of discussion for either event.
