The Maine Fishermen’s Forum has reported the largest attendance in 20 years at the annual March 2015 event. An estimated 5,000 attended the three day program which includes all day seminars and meetings on fisheries issues and a trade show. Evenings featured dinners, a scholarship fund-raiser auction, music and dancing

The $40,000 goal for the scholarship fund raiser was met on Friday night. Forum director Chilloa Young said the improved economy, the good fishing season for the lobster industry and tough winter weather all contributed to the big turnout for the industry’y premier event in Maine. Young noted free medical services offered at the Forum. The Fishermen’s Partnership sponsored free hearing tests and dermatologists Dr. Mark Jensen and Dr. Kennneth Galeckas provided free skin cancer screenings to 65 people. There were 2 melanomas and 12 skin cancers detected among the 65 people tested.
