Holland Boat

Neat, sharp and swift. Recently launched and ready to sail home to Wiscasset where it will be fished year round with a Cummins 330. Scott Simpson’s Holland 32, Betty-Jane, Belfast Harbor.

In 1973, Glen Holland designed his own hull and the Holland 30 was born. After a fire where the molds had been stored, he needed a new mold. Holland partnered with Royal Lowell and they designed the now-legendary Holland 32. That boat went into production in 1978. In 1986, the first Holland 38 was built. Wanting something smaller to play with, the Holland 14 was introduced in 1994.

Holland’s boat shop in Belfast is humming with wall-to-wall boatbuilding projects. As soon as the economy began to rebound, he saw the line forming at his shop door again.

Holland has more than a few decades of boatbuilding under his belt. His 32-foot Red Baron’s victories on the lobsterboat racing circuit sealed his reputation for building fast hulls. His father fished the Red Baron for years and they both raced it.

Holland said recently that he is getting an equal number of lobsterboat and pleasure boat orders. In January, they were working on a 32 with the engine in place, a 32 bare hull, and a 38 being stretched to 41 feet. They were setting up to start a 38 and another 32.
