DMR Seeking Help With
Fall Scallop Recovery

 

The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) conducted a small pilot scallop tagging survey in Cobscook Bay this year. Eight hundred fifty-one scallops were marked with bright red, non-toxic Sharpie marker with either A or B and with a number between 1-500 for the A scallops and 1-351 for the B scallops. DMR staffers were hoping to re-capture some of these during our fall survey, but found only two. We are asking your help in relaying information about any of these marked scallops. The two areas where DMR staff released these scallops were west of Treat’s Island and west of Red Island in Lower Cobscook Bay. Most of the tagged scallops were legal size and about 25 percent were 3.5- to 4-inch shell height.

If you catch any of these marked scallops, please save the shell with the mark so we can measure the shell height. Please also record the latitude and longitude or loran position for that tow. Here is the contact information for reporting tagged scallops:
