Capt. Mark East’s Advice to the Careworn, Confused, Lovelorn and Other Outdoor People

Dear Capt. East,
I have a bit of a dilema. I live in Pennsylvania where big deer are plentiful and have been hunting bucks since I was a kid. I have many excellent full cape mounts as well as racks. I can remember the hunt and how old I was of each. I’m 54 and my wife even tho she hunts as well, wants me to stop collecting or stop hunting. What do I do??

Dear Mount Lover,
Have you given any thought to Skeet or clay pigeons?

Dear Capt. Mark,
I hope you can help me. I do a lot of fishing and hunting and outdoor work as well. At night after turning in and asleep, I often get very painful leg cramps and can’t sleep. I’ve tried cold packs and heating pads and stretching, but often do not get enough sleep. Any ideas?
Signed, Cramped

Dear Cramped,
There are a few things. Get in a good walk three times a week. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat foods with potassium such as bananas, potatoes, apples, etc. Or, take Potassium supplement tablets available over the counter at your local drug store. Occasional stretches such as “lunges” often help. Working around the house, I have a certain doorway where I do 2-3 before going through. Good luck.
