Liberty National

A 47-foot passenger catamaran was hauled recently at the Waldoboro town landing for repairing damage sustained during Hurricane Sandy. The Liberty National, named for the elite golf course it serves as water taxi, motored from it’s New Jersey home port to Maine, where its builder Maine Cat of Bremen will refurbish it. It was first launched in April 2012, Maine Cat’s first certified passenger power cat. It takes members from New York City to the club in Jersey City. This twin-hull vessel is powered by two Steyr 230hp engines and top speed is 25 knots. At 17 knots, it burns 11 gallons of fuel per hour, which the builder calls very fuel efficient for a boat of its size. Steve Cartwright photo
