Race Season Wrap Up

Lobster boat races at Winter harbor and Eastport were the last of the season. Winter Harbor’s August races were re-scheduled tp September 8th due to weather and then went off late due to thick fog. Fog came and went throughout the races that saw wind and rough water.

There were a lot of boats lined up for the days races.

Once again Winter Harbor offered a prize that brought attention to the day’s event. A 2006 Chevy Silverado pick-up was the prize that went to Fred Backman, FV Plan B.

All who completed a race that day were eligible for the end of the day drawing for the truck.

Weather conditions made for some rough water and plenty of spray. There were 68 boats registered to race and a strong showing of spectator boats.

Eastport hosted their first year of lobster boat races on September 9th. There was a good turnout of racers their for their first year. It coincided with Eastport’s Pirate Festival which ran all weekend.

Master woodworker Kevin Snyder of Coves End Woodworking in Gouldsboro, hefting the gun he built for Poseidon Firearms on Route 3 in Trenton, Maine. There was no one in the area big enough to handle the recoil the day this photo was taken, so it was not test fired. Brian Stan of Poseidon Firearms installed the muzzle loader over the door. The metal work, including the sighting ball near the end of the barrel, the flint lock and trigger are in fact all wood as is the entire replica designed and built by Snyder.
