Red Lobster

Billy Bob Faulkingham of Winter Harbor, with rare red lobster. “We were hauling,” he said, “and I saw this one and said - that doesn’t look right – Is it a keeper?” Faulkingham said he wasn’t sure what to do with it at first – he’s caught a lobster with yellow dots, and a couple blue lobsters, but red ones are twice as rare as the blue. Darling Marine Center scientist Bob Steneck said, Lobster pigment is complicated and has several layers. Blue lobsters result from the near absence of all pigment but they are more common than red lobsters. Blue lobsters are estimated to be one in a million. Red is something higher than that. I’m guessing the chances of a red lobster is one in several million.
